Working out has always been a struggle for me. I don’t love doing it, I could never find anything I really liked, and most importantly, I couldn’t find anything I wanted to stick with. After a few months with my Beachbody challenge group, I decided to order PiYo.
If you don’t know what PiYo is, it is a Beachbody workout series that combines Pilates and Yoga. At first, it didn’t look too hard and I looked at it as a way to ease back in. On the first day, after the two and a half minute warm-up, I was wondering what I had gotten myself into! I was breaking a sweat already but it didn’t feel like a “hard” workout, if that make sense. In the end, I didn’t stick with it, and my PiYo DVD’s collected dust in the TV cabinet.
Fast forward to the first week of March. I decided that if I was going to see results, I needed to stick with something. PiYo came back into play, and I used the calendar that they suggest as far as what workout you do on each day. I found printable versions of them here. (They also come with the DVD, but I liked adding the actual calendar days to these.) I missed 5 days due to our trip back to Nebraska, but overall, I was astounded with the results. I have lost 8.75 TOTAL inches since March 7! Here’s the breakdown:
One inch off of my hips, two and half inches off my chest, half inch off my left arm, an inch off of my waist, a quarter of an inch from around my middle where my belly button is, one and a quarter inches from my right thigh, and one and three quarters of an inch off of my left thigh.
Isn’t that CRAZY? I was disappointed at first that the scale wasn’t moving but inches is where you SEE it. Plus, I am learning to not get so hung up on the number on the scale.
At first, PiYo was tough and I was doing most of the modifications to the moves. There are still some challenges I am finding, but I am sticking with it for another month– I can’t wait to see how that ends up. I can tell I am getting stronger and leaner, and I truly do look forward to getting it in. As an added bonus, Chalene (the instructor) is really positive and I actually LIKE working out with her! She is encouraging and lighthearted, and it’s definitely an improvement over some other workout videos I have used.
